page 6K. P. Gohlmann of this city has returned from Charlotte, where he attended the funeral of his brother, Martin Gohlmann, whose death occurred at that place. The Charlotte Record has the following to say regarding his death.
Another former Charlotte citizen has been called to that bourne from when no traveler returns. At the home of his cousin, H. Bertelsen, of Box Elder, South Dakota, last Wednesday occurred the death of Martin Gohlmann.
Deceased was the son of Martin G. and Marie (Bertelsen) Gohlmann, and was born on the old homestead east of Charlotte January 9, 1858. He resided with his parents until January 12, 1879 when he was married to Miss Marie Duer, and in 1903 they moved to Ft. Dodge where they continued to reside until Mrs. Gohlmann's death occurred October 24, 1914. The following spring Mr. Gohlmann returned to Charlotte, where he remained for a few months, then going to Fruitdale, Alabama. While in that state he contracted typhoid fever from which he recovered in a much weakened condition and he was advised by his physician to seek a change of climate, hence his removal to South Dakota, but his health continued to grow worse until death relieved his sufferings last Wednesday. He was the father on one son, Martin, who died in 1897. He leaves to mourn his death three brothers and two sisters, John G., Andrew M. of Maquoketa, K. P. of Lyons, Mrs. Mathilda Petersen of Sabula and Mrs. Christina Schroeder of Glengary, Idaho.
The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon at the Charlotte Methodist church, Rev. Smith preaching a very appropriate sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Gohlmann cemetery, the following acting as pall bearers: Chris, Matthias and Theodore Gohlmann, John Farrell, L. C. Dennis and Harry Beeby.
Martin Gohlmann was a man who had the faculty of making friends with all whom he met, all esteemed him very highly and it is with much regret that we are called upon to publish this obituary at this time of another of Charlotte's favorite sons.
