3 April 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Anamosa, Ia. April 3--Anamosa felt a great shock of sympathetic sorrow, when on Thursday the notice was given of the death of Mrs. Leigh Pearson at the hospital the night previous. Mrs. Pearson had been a resident of Anamosa but a short time, but she had endeared herself to all who met her and the fates seemed unkind to take a young woman of her ability and appreciation of the higher things of life away from the home of the young husband whose wife she had been but a few short months. Mrs. Pearson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Phelps of Lost Nation. Last summer she was married to Leigh Pearson, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Pearson of Anamosa. Mr. Pearson is employed in the post office here and the young people started in life together with every prospect of a bright and happy future. Mrs. Pearson was naturally of a delicate constitution and about a week ago went to the hospital for an operation for appendicitis, which was successful, but she did not have the endurance to rally, and later an attack of pleurisy which necessitated another operation which exhausted all of her slight amount of strength. In accordance with her request her body was taken to Lost Nation for burial, where the funeral services were held on Saturday. Brief services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Pearson on Thursday morning before the relatives and friends started on the sad journey. Mrs. Phelps, mother of Mrs. Pearson, has been with her constantly and a brother came before she passed away. There is also a sister living, who was not able to come here. Quantities of flowers testified to the sympathy and regard of the friends Mrs. Pearson has made during her brief residence here and to the sympathy felt for Mr. Pearson in his bereavement.
