Charles L. Davis, a pioneer resident of Oak Park, Ill., and well known in Clinton, died Friday at his home in Kenilworth avenue in that city. Forty years ago Mr. Davis married Miss Florence A. Benson of Clinton, daughter of the well known family of that name formerly residing in Second avenue; two of Mrs. Davis' brother, B. A. Benson and F. B. Benson still residents of this city.
Mr. Davis went to Chicago forty-two years ago and had been a classmate of the late President McKinley in Alleghany college before that time. He was employed in the money order, department of the Chicago postoffice for thirty-five years and previously had been a quartermaster in the U. S. navy during the civil war.
His two children, C. D. Davis of Ardmore, Ill., and Mrs. J. B. McLane of Tidioute, Pa., have many friends in this city. His wife also survives him. Funeral services were held at the Oak Park home.
