13 March 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Henry A. Hoebin, a pioneer merchant of this city, died Sunday morning at 4:55, after a lengthy illness extending back several years. Henry Hobein was born in Germany March 4, 1847, and seven years later came to America in 1852, with his parents, coming to Lyons, where he has since resided until the time of his death.

In 1869 he entered the baking business, taking over the stand which was located in the Root block and had been operated by Louis Caille. After the fire, which burned out that business section in 1870, he moved into the building now occupied by the Hobein and Keise Racket Store. Here he continued in the bakery business until 1884, when he closed out that business to engage in the clothing business, and some years later closed out that to enter the Racket Store, which now is operated by his son, George, and son-in-law, George Keiss.

Mr. Hobein was united in marriage on May 8, 1869, to Miss Ross Guth of this city, who still survives with four children, two daughters, Mrs. George Keiss of this city, Mrs. Lewis Clarke of Chicago, two sons, George H. and Louis E., both of this city, one daughter, Mrs. Edward Gallion, died Dec. 22, 1906, at Milwaukee, Wis. A brother, W. C. Hobein, and a sister, Mrs. George Buechner, both of this city, also survive the deceased.

Henry A. Hobein was a township collector for one term, and was also a member of the following orders: German Dramatic Association, Woodmen of the World and Modern Woodmen and also the Odd Fellows. Friends and lodge members may view the remains Tuesday morning until noon and are asked to omit flowers. Funeral services will be private and will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, with burial in Oakland cemetery.

Funeral services for the late Henry A. Hobein were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home on Main street, with burial in Oakland cemetery. The pallbearers were H. G. Kisting, H. J. Toenningsen, Otto Rockrohr, L. C. Moesinger, Peter Frahm and Charles Rockrohr.
