Funeral services for the late J. P. Walrod were held yesterday afternoon at the late residence, conducted by Rev. Rogers, pastor of the First Baptist church of Clinton. Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. Ella J. Welse of Clinton.
The pall bearers were Ernest Fell, John Fell, W. D. Walrod, Wm. Baldwin, R. L. Baldwin and Lester Walrod. Interment was made in Elmwood cemetery.
James P. Walrod one of the earliest pioneers of Iowa, was born in Oswego county, New York October 12, 1835, and passed away March 8, 1916, at his home in DeWitt, Iowa, aged 80 years, 4 months and 25 days. His parents were Abraham and Sarah Redmond Walrod and with them he came to Iowa in 1839 at the age of three, locating near Welton, Iowa. He crossed the plains to the western country when a young man, but soon returned and lived in this vicinity the rest of his life.
He was married April 27, 1862, to Sarah Brown, who preceded him in death December 2d. 1905. His life was quiet and unassuming and he held the respect of the entire community.
