WELL KNOWN LADY DIES AFTER ILLNESS OF EIGHT MONTHS DURATION.
FUNERAL TUESDAY
Deceased to be Laid at Rest Tuesday Afternoon After Services at St. John's -- Was Operated Upon at Mercy Hospital Last April for Cancer of the Stomach.

Mrs. Franz Bartels, a well known resident, passed away Saturday evening at 9 o'clock at her home, 518 North Seventh Street.

The deceased had been a resident of this city for the past twenty-eight years and had enjoyed the best of health until last February. In April she was operated upon for a cancer of the stomach and since then she had been gradually failing.

Mrs. Wilhelmina Bartels nee Wilke was born September 9, 1855 at Pommerania, Germany, making her 58 years and 4 days of age at the time of her death. On September 26, 1885, she was united in marriage to Franz Bartels. The same year they came to this city and had resided her ever since.

Deceased was we known in church circles, having been a member for years of St. John's Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid society.

Three children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. The deceased is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Martha Bartels, and three sisters, Mrs. Augusta Craplin and Mrs. Lena Horn of this city and Mrs. Johanna Reed of Chadwick, Ill., two brothers William Wilke and Fred Wilke, both of this city.

The funeral services Tuesday will be in charge of Rev. Hugo Grimm of St. John's Lutheran church, beginning with a short service at the residence. The body will then be taken to St. John's Lutheran church where, at 2 o'clock, the funeral sermon will be preached by the pastor. Interment will follow at Oakland cemetery.

MRS. FRANZ BARTELS IS LAID AT REST
Last Sad Rites Over Well Known Resident of City Held Tuesday Afternoon at St. John's Church.

A large number of friends of the late Mrs. Franz Bartels gathered at St. John's church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon to pay their last respects to her memory. The funeral sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. Hugo Grimm. The following friends acted as pall bearers: J. F. Bentschneider, Nick Martinsen, Peter Frahmm, Adolph Diesing, H. Hayungs and Carl Wascher. The body was laid at rest in Oakland cemetery.
