29 January 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Mrs. Esther Gaughan, nee Gifford, passed away at the home of her mother on Fourteenth avenue this morning at 3:20 o'clock, after an illness of one month's duration.

The deceased lived in Cedar Rapids, but was taken ill a month ago and came to this city to stay at the home of her mother.

She was born in Clinton, where she lived for some time, and later was united in marriage to Thomas Gaughan.

She leaves a husband two daughters, Phyllis and Geraldine, her only son, Valentine, having died last summer. Also surviving her are her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Gifford; two brothers, T. G. Gifford and Vernon Gifford, and one sister, Mrs. Ayex Olsen.

Services will be held at St. Mary's church here at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Father McLaughlin being in charge. Burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. T. Gaughan, who died Saturday morning, were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at St. Mary's church. Very Rev. E. J. McLaughlin officiated. Interment was in St. Mary's church.
