Peter P. Gabel, an old resident of this city died suddenly at 10 o'clock this morning, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 26 days.
The deceased was born on November 9, 1830 in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. He came to this country and to Erie, Pa. in 1846, and was united in marriage in that city with Fredericka Armemann on July 31, 1851.
Nine children were born of this union five of whom died in infancy. A son died in 1875 at the age of 24 years.
The deceased with his family, came to Lyons many years ago. He was a shoemaker by occupation, retiring from business in 1893. His wife passed away on Dec. 31, 1915, and since then he had made his home with his daughter Josephine on Fountain street. Mr. Gabel had been ailing a number of years, but his death this morning was unexpected.
Surviving the deceased are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ashalm of Rock Island and Miss Josephine at home; a son, Will, of Rockford; six grandchildren, a brother, Will, of Kansas City, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Grady, of Muscatine.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence, Rev. Hugo Grimm officiating. Interment will be in Oakland cemetery.
