4 February 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Mrs. Sarah Stewart was born October 5, 1833, at Niagra, Canada. On her seventeenth birthday at Lake, Wisconsin, Sarah Barber was united in marriage with Joseph Thomas Stewart. They made their home in Wisconsin for several years before moving to Missouri, where they lived during the civil war. To them were born thirteen children, nine of whom are living: George Alexander Stewart of Clinton, Mrs. Clara Helen George of Jackson, Tenn., Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Bremer of Hartland, Wis., John Thomas Stewart of Clinton, Mrs. Mary Rebecca Buchan of Waukeshaw, Wis., William Howard Stewart of Clinton, Mrs. F. J. Smith of Oshkosh, Wis., Francis Edwin Stewart of Clinton and Ralph Waldo Emerson Stewart of Clinton.

Mr. George Barber of Long Beach, Calif., and Mr. John Barber, of Sioux Falls, S. D., are the two brothers surviving Mrs. Stewart.

Mrs. Stewart united with the Methodist Episcopal church as a girl. Since making her home in Clinton for nearly fifty years, Mrs. Stewart has been an ever faithful and consistent member of Lyons church. Service for the Kingdom was a dominating force in her life maintaining a Christian home and rearing her children in that faith.

Her illness lasted less than a week. Last Thursday night Mrs. Stewart was threatened with pneumonia which continued its course until death came on Wednesday morning, just before eleven o'clock, February 2. Mrs. Stewart was 82 years of age. The funeral service will be conducted from the Lyons Methodist Episcopal church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock; interment at Oakland cemetery. Rev. R. C. Keagy will officiate.

7 February 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

The funeral of the late Mrs. Sarah Barber Stewart was held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. R. C. Keagy conducting the service. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

The pallbearers were Silas Dodge, W. A. Sewell, P. S. Eaton, E. E. Hecker, Matt Finch and W. L. Estabrook.
