Mrs. Alwina Yaddof was born March 22, 1876, in Fairfield, Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Fred Berg and his surviving widow. She was baptized April 17, 1876. When in her 14th year she was sent to the catechetical instruction and was confirmed in the class of 1890 on March 30th at the Ev. Lutheran Church at Spragueville. The following years she remained with her parents until her marriage to August Yaddof, March 20, 1895.

At first they made their home on a farm north of Spragueville; and two years ago they removed to their new place two and one-half miles southeast of Preston. Until lately, their family consisted of four children; August born May 5, 1896; Amelia, born August 15, 1898; Edward, born May 9, 1903; Elmer, born June 6, 1906. For all of these she cared as well as a Christian mother is able who is bound to assume the manifold duties of household besides.

During the winter of 1909 she passed through a severe and prolonged sickness, from which she finally recovered. On the 3rd of this month, however, she gave birth to a baby boy and although the confinement seemed to pass by fairly well, she showed symptoms for the worse on the fourth day. This change was due, according to the attending physician's statement, to the presence of uremic poison in her system. And this deadly poison did its destructive work in spite of combined medical skill and the best of care. At first her only thought was to recover, for she could not consent to leave her family which needed her so much. But when the issue became doubtful she resigned to the will of the heavenly Father and prepared for her departure by having administered to her the sacrament of the holy communion. On Monday morning last she fell asleep in the Lord after a very severe agony of almost twelve long hours. Her age is 35 years 26 days.

Her bereavement is mourned by her husband, five children, her aged mother and eight brothers and sisters: Fred Berg, Neola, Iowa; Karl Berg, Independence, Iowa; Henry Berg, from here; Mrs. Christine Meyer, Pottawattamie County, Iowa; Mrs. Mina Otto, Minden, Iowa; Mrs. Caroline Meyer, from here; Mrs. Emilie Stoll, Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Elsie Reifsteeck.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at noon from the house and at one o'clock from the Lutheran Church of Preston. Interment will be made in the Spragueville Cemetery.
