THE SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. MARGARET REA MOLT.
The death of Mrs. Margaret Rea Molt, beloved wife of Dr. T. F. Molt, brief mention of which was made in the AGE Thursday morning, has cast a shadow of gloom over the entire community.
Perhaps no woman in the city was more popularly known or possessed a wider circle of friends than did Mrs. Molt. For a number of years past she had been prominently identified with the religious, charitable and social life of the city, and the announcement of her sudden and unexpected death caused profoundest sorrow among all.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal church in this city, and owing to her rare musical talent had been selected as organist in this house of worship some years ago, which place she filled in a creditable and highly efficient manner up to the time of her death, having presided at the organ at both morning and evening service on last Sunday.
Margaret Augusta Rea was born in Indianapolis, Ind., August 11, 1855, and was therefore thirty-seven years and five months old at the time of her death. She was married to Theodore F. Molt at Urbana, Ill., on November 17, 1876, where they resided several years. Later they moved to Elgin, Ill., and in 1876 they came to this city, where they have since resided. Three children came to bless their union, one of which died in its infancy the two surviving being Fred, aged twelve, and Margaret aged three years. The father of the deceased, Samson Rea, resides in New York City, and two brothers - Dr. V. H. and Fred Rea - reside in Pullman, Ill. Three sisters also remain to mourn, they being: Mrs. W. H. McGary, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mesdames A. A. Norton and E. E. Sterrett, of Elgin, Ill.
The immediate cause of death of this estimable woman was diabetes and heart disease. She had been in poor health since last spring but at no time was her condition considered of a serious nature. Apparently she was in her usual health last Sunday, and chatted pleasantly with acquaintances at the conclusion of services at St. John's church. On Monday morning she was taken suddenly ill and the family physician was summoned. She grew rapidly worse and on Tuesday it was announced that there was but slight chance of her recovery. At 11:30 o'clock Wednesday night she passed peacefully away, surrounded by the immediate members of her family.
To her husband and children the warmest sympathy goes out in the loss of a kind and devoted wife and loving mother.
Funeral services over the remains will be conducted from St. John's Episcopal church at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The remains will be taken to Urbana, Ill., this evening for interment.
