Jean Tena Thompson was born on October 13, 1933 in Sabula, Iowa. Her parents were the late Harold and Marjorie (McElroy) Thompson. Jeans father was employed by the government on Mississippi River where he built dams. They resided in various river towns until 1939 when they moved back to Sabula to operate the family general store. In 1946 the Thompson family moved to Minnesota where they owned and operated the 7th Crow Wing Resort in rural Nevis. Jean graduated from the Nevis High School with the class of 1951. She continued her education in the University of Minnesota Duluth. Graduating in 1955, Jean majored in English. She taught in the Gilbert School District in Gilbert, Minnesota for 36 year and she was an advisor to the school yearbook the entire time.

In 1956 Jeans parents made their home in New York Mills. Jean began to spend summers in the area, purchasing a place on Rush Lake in 1957. After retiring in 1991, Oak Point on Rush Lake became a permanent residence while spending winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. Since 1996 she resided in Imperial Bonita Estates (IBE). Jean enjoyed reading, crafts, the Minnesota Twins, playing any games of cards, especially bridge.

On May 24, 2017 Jean passed away at Perham Living in Perham, Minnesota at 83 years of age. She will be dearly missed. Preceding Jean in death were her parents, Harold and Marjorie.
