Delbert J. Geffers, 82, of Clinton, passed away, Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Miles American Legion. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny Liddle, Kenny Geffers, Jr., David Hull, Gary Mulholland, Greg Alm, Jerry Gluesing, Jim Kick, and Reynold Platt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jack Deters, Joe Hill, Fulton Chimera, August Von Thun, Don Schmidt, Duane Schmidt, and Danny Witt. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.

Debert John Geffers was born on November 2, 1934, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Hugo and Minnie (Meggers) Geffers. He was a graduate of DeWitt High School where he was inducted into the hall of fame with the 1951 DeWitt Central Track Team. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. He was honored to take part in the May 2013 Honor Flight to Washington, DC. He was a member of the Clinton AMVETS and the Miles American Legion.

Delbert farmed in Clinton County near Elvira for 40 years retiring in 1996. He obtained a Iowa Farmer Degree. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year by the DeWitt Jaycees. He was a 50 year plus member of the Farm Bureau, past secretary of the Clinton County Cattleman Association, a charter member of the Iowa Cattlemens since 1973, and Beef Prognosticators.

Delbert was a 50 year plus member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was the past president of the Elvira Zion Brotherhood, and a member of the Eagles Club #705.

Delbert married Leanna (Leslie) Richmond on March 5, 1985 in Las Vegas. In addition to his wife of 32 years he is survived by his children: Kim (Greg) Alm of Goose Lake, Kristi (Jerry) Gluesing of Camanche, and Randy (Kim) Geffers of Denver, North Carolina; his step-children: Angie (Doug) Nauman of Altoona, Iowa, Rachel (Mike) Wiersema of Fulton, Clint Richmond of Waterloo, and David Doney of Delmar; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Kenneth.

Memorials can be made to Elvira Zion Lutheran Church or Mercy Hospice.
