BEULAH JOY VANCE, 92, of Clinton, IA , formerly of Fulton and Erie, IL, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, IA.
The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL, preceded by a visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Officiating will be Rev. Catherine Martin. Burial will be in Lusk Memorial Cemetery, Albany, IL. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Fulton Presbyterian Church
Beulah Daw was born on July 16, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Alta (VanNest) Daw in Garden Plain Township. She graduated from Erie High School and attended Northern Illinois Teacher's College. She married Richard James on June 16, 1944, at the Albany United Methodist Church. They had three sons, Paul, Donald and Charles. She was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, Home Bureau, Order of Eastern Star, and DAR. She also served as a Judge of Elections. The couple lived and farmed near Erie, IL, until his death on February 25, 1964. On March 10, 1966, she married Harold Vance in Rock Falls and moved to Fulton. She added two stepdaughters, Dianne and Ladora to her family. After settling into her new home and community, she continued to serve as an Election Judge. She also took classes at Mary Crest College. Mrs. Vance was an active member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church leading Bible studies and serving as an Elder. Her great passion became raising flowers and her specialty was African violets. The couple enjoyed many trips together and often took in flower shows as they traveled. Mr. Vance preceded her in death on December 29, 2005.
Survivors include sons, Paul R. James of Rock Falls and Donald A. (Judy) James of Erie; a daughter-in-law, Susan Davis-James of Sacramento, CA; stepdaughters, Dianne (Richard) Londo of Roscoe and Ladora (Larry) Eberle of Richmond, VA; eleven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son, Charles A. "Chuck" James on March 22, 2017; and two brothers, Charles and Harland Daw.
