GONE HOME
~
The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Isaac P. Brewer, early on Wednesday morning, fills the city with gloom and sorrow. A most highly respected and greatly beloved Christian has gone for her reward. Few persons, in an obtrusive and lack of display manner, are ever found in any community who accomplish so much for the unfortunate and needy as did this estimable lady. It seemed to be her highest aim and ambition to do something for somebody. In a word, she never grew weary in well doing.

Mrs. Brewer had been somewhat ill for two weeks. But neither the attending physician nor members of the family thought her symptoms were of a dangerous nature. So nicely was she getting along and so – - was she improving that her husband in obedience to a business emergency, started Sunday night for Denver, Colorado, and he was denied the sad privilege to be at his wife’s bedside when the final summons came.

Mrs. Brewer was sixty years of age and was born in New Jersey and came to Clinton with her husband in 1861. From a child she had been connected with the Episcopal Church, and all the years she lived in Clinton she was a devoted and earnest member of and worker in St. John’s Church. It is her church work that she will be most missed, though in her efforts to help the poor she knew neither church boundaries not religious belief-in behalf of charity she was as impartial as in the curse of poverty.

Mrs. Brewer leaves of her immediate family, one son Zebulon L. Brewer, and two daughters Misses Mary and Harriet, the two latter being with their mother at the time of her death. Mrs. Brewer is expected on this morning’s train.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at two o’clock at the Episcopal Church.
