Margaret Lou Stoecken age 74 of Preston, IA, passed away Sunday February 12, 2017 at her home. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday Feb. 18th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Preston. Visitation will be held 4 PM - 8:30 PM Friday Feb. 17th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Preston. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton is assisting the family. Following the funeral mass, cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date. Casket bearers will be Kevin, Dean, and Andy Stoecken, David and Robert Fiest, and Cletus Heister. Margaret was born on May 3, 1942 in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Charles and Honora (O'Brien) Atkinson. She graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1960. She married Roger Stoecken on Oct. 13, 1962 in Clinton. Margaret was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric in Morrison, operated the Preston Legion Club, and Hometown Café, She also done bookkeeping for Stoecken Construction and Trucking. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Preston, where she was a member of the church council and coordinator for funeral luncheons for over 20 years. She was a member of the Preston American Legion Auxiliary and the Preston Fire Department Auxiliary. Margaret was a "go to" person for many area youngsters. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren activities, watching NASCAR Racing, especially "Tony Stewart", gardening, baking and restoring furniture.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Roger Stoecken of Preston; her son, Michael (Kelly) Stoecken of Preston; three daughters, Mary Kay (Rory) Stone of Clinton, Michelle (Curtis) Farley of Clinton, and Melanie (Brad) Davis of Darlington, WI; 8 grandchildren, Kiira, Heather, and Rory "Calvin" Stone, Elesha Briggs, Tricia (Adam) Landheer, Shawn Farley, Jacob and Markell Stoecken; 6 great grandchildren, William, Rowan, Hendrix, Michael, Gideon, and Chloe; three brothers, Larry (Jackie) Atkinson of Camanche, Dan Atkinson of Moline, IL, and Steve (Debbie) Atkinson of Davenport; five sisters, Pat (Frank) Greve of Camanche, Nan (Marv) Fiest of Oskaloosa, IA, Mardella Dorrell of Chula Vista, CA, Bonnie (Gray) Tebbe of Preston, and Mary (Onie) Butt of Clinton; four brother-in-law, Chuck Klinkner of Clinton, Tony Schultz of Camanche, Steve Brown of South Carolina, and Fred Stoecken of Bellevue; nine sister-in-law, Carol Atkinson of Preston, Jane Atkinson of Preston, Bev Boultinhouse of Silvis, IL, Linda Atkinson of Lost Nation, Marie Rossman of Preston, and Barb Dodds of Clinton, Doris (Earl) Shields of Albany, IL, Linda (Norman) Jaeger and Laurel (Robert) Nelson both of Inverness, FL; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Charles (Jack), Joe, Bill, and Jim Atkinson; three sisters, Fran Klinkner, Kay Schultz, and Rhonda Brown; brother-in-law, Gary Dorrell; two sister-in-law, Louise (Don) DeWitt and Betty Stoecken.
