The Death of John Crowley

Sunday afternoon John Crowley, well and favorably known in this city for a number of years, breathed his last, being taken off by lingering consumption. For some time past Mr. Crowley had been suffering with the dread disease but struggled against it and by his strong will power, was out when ordinarily the victim would be in bed. He has served for a long time on the police force of Clinton and gave universal satisfaction being especially adapted therefore. He was a man who knew his duty and did it without fear, a man highly respected by the citizens and feared by the wrong doers. He was at the time of his death in his 40th year. Besides having a large circle of friends to mourn his loss, he leaves a wife and several children, all but one, a daughter, were stepchildren. He has been a kind husband and father and the loss falls heavily on the bereaved family, who have the sympathy of the whole community. The funeral occurred Tuesday at 2 o’clock and was largely attended.
