The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, February 3, 1882

Mr. John O’Brien of this city, fell from a moving train, near Wheatland, Tuesday, and had both legs severed from his body. He was brought to his residence in this city, were he soon expired from the effects of his injuries. He leaves a widow to mourn his loss. He was highly esteemed to his fellow workmen, to whom the familiar wave of his signal lamp and cheery, “all right; go ahead,” are things of the past. His funeral, which occurred yesterday, was largely attended.
