Death of Thomas Adams

It is with deep sorrow that we chronicle the death of City Treasurer, Thomas Adams, which occurred at Bath, L. I. at two o’clock yesterday morning, of heart disease.

Mr. Adams for many years has filled an honorable position in Clinton. He came to this city in 1867 as manager of the American Express Company, and held the position until the time of his death. During his stay here he has held positions of honor and trust, having been almost constantly connected with the school board and served the city as Treasurer three terms and has ever been a trustworthy and efficient official.

By the death of Mr. Adams, Clinton lost one of her most highly esteemed citizens and the news of his death seemed to carry gloom over the entire community.

The sympathy of the entire community is with the sorrowing family who are – befit of a kind and affectionate husband and an indulgent and much loved parent.

Mr. Thomas Adams, his remains were brought from Long Island, where he died to Dubuque, where he and his family have resided previous coming to Clinton, and where three of his children were buried there Tuesday of this week, all that was mortal of Thomas Adams, was consigned to the tomb. Though a dozen years has elapsed since his residence at Dubuque, one would have thought by the full church of friends and acquaintances, and by the beautiful floral arrangements, that the deceased had been brought to a city friends and life-long associates. The funeral was largely attended. The inability to reach Dubuque prevented many acquaintances from attending from Clinton. The Mayor represented the City.
