William F. Rowe, 77, of Camanche, passed away, Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton.

Funeral Services will be 2:00pm, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the service time Saturday at the funeral home.

William Francis Rowe was born on September 26, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of William and Lulu (Farrell) Rowe. He was a 1957 graduate of Clinton High School.

He married Joyce Iliff on March 14, 1959 in Clinton.

Bill was a carpenter for 20 years in the Carpenters Local Union #772. He later served on the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department for eight years. He served as chief deputy from 1978-1980. He graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. He served on the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department from 1961-2003, serving as its chief from 1987-2003.

Bill enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River and attending his grandchildren’s events. He enjoyed his time on the volunteer fire department and was awarded the Roger Mooty Memorial award in 2002 from the Iowa Fire Chief’s Association, and the Governor’s Award for Community Service in 2003.

Bill is survived by his wife: Joyce of Camanche; two children: Roxann (John) Dixon of Camanche, and William (Laura) Rowe of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; five grandchildren: Elizabeth (Chris) Torrence, Ashtyn Dixon, Alexandra Dixon, Madeline Rowe, and Quinn Rowe, a great-grandson due in March, three sisters: Shirley Dash of Clinton, Joan Greene of Clinton, and Patsy Bennett of Kentucky, and his beloved cat: Andy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Memorials can be made to the Camanche Fire Department.
