Another Drowning

Sunday afternoon last, while playing near Joyce’s Mill with another boy, Maurice Reed fell into the slough. Lee Stahle called for aid, and Henry ? (can't make out last name) ran from the mill and tried to save the boy, but could not get him out of the water, and he drowned. Search for the boy began at once, and about an hour and a half afterwards it was drawn from the water.

Maurice was an orphan living with his grandfather and grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Foran, and was aged 11. His parents had been dead, his mother seven and his father eight years. He had three little sisters-one living with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nelson, her uncle and aunt, another, with Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Spelman, and the third with Mr. and Mrs. Goodall, at Charlotte. Everybody sympathized with the relatives in their sudden loss.

The funeral was held here Tuesday, Mr. Spelman and wife and Mrs. Goodall bringing their adopted children down to attend. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.

Coroner Skelley was down from Lost Nation, but no inquest was held.
