3 October 1946 - The Clarence Sun

Mrs. Margret Russell, of Wheatland, passed away at her home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 1946, after a cerebral hemorrhage about a week ago. She had been in failing health the past year and a half, suffering from a heart ailment.

Margret Struck was the second child of Otto and Minnie Struck, and was born in Wheatland on January 6, 1872. She was educated in the Wheatland public school and baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical and Reformed church, and was an ardent church goer whenever her health permitted.

She was united in marriage to Henry J. Horstmann of Lowden on Feb. 27, 1890, and they made their home in Lowden. To this union three children were born Velma, now Mrs. William Wagner, of Hartley, and Hubert and Henry who have preceded her in death. Her husband passed away October 10, 1895.

On November 28, 1922, she was married to Frank Russell, and their married life was short, as he passed away following a heart attack May 5, 1927.

Mrs. Russell was a member of the R. N. A., the St. Paul's Ladies Aid, Eastern Star and several social clubs. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and a friend to all, and made many acquaintances during her span of life. She will indeed be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing this grand lady.

Left to mourn her death are one daughter, Mrs. William Wagner, of Hartley; two stepsons, Chester Russell, of Skokie, Illinois, and Bryan Russell, of Evanston, Illinois; three grandchildren, Mrs. Paul Leinbaugh of Grand Mound, Kent Wagner of Hartley, and L. W. Wagner of Austin, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Sandra and Billie Wagner, of Austin; three brothers, Edward Struck of Beaver Dam, Ky., and Arnold Struck of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Mrs. John Rath of Davenport and Mrs. Theophil Riedesel of Wheatland. One brother, Henry Struck, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 at the home Monday afternoon and at 2 at St. Paul's church, with Rev. C. H. Koehler officiating. Burial was made in the Lowden cemetery, and was in charge of the Eastern Star.
