Lauren ("Larry") J. Gehlsen, 89, of Castle Rock, Colorado passed away on October 16, 2011. Larry was born February 11, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa. He was the son of John C. Gehlsen and Violet L. Johnson Gehlsen. He attended school in Andover, Iowa.
Larry served in the Army Infantry during the World War II European Theatre. He fought and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and became an American Prisoner of War at Stalag 12A to 9B Limburg An Der Lahn Hessen-Nassau, Prussia 50-08.
In September 1948 he married Catherine Vada Mullen in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1978.
Larry Was employed with Montgomery Ward and Firestone Tire in Clinton and various other places in Iowa and an account executive with General Tire in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois until retiring in 1984 after 27 yrs. After traveling extensively he settled down in Franktown, Colorado and last lived in Castle Rock.
He is survived by his four children: Sandra Dorr of Colorado City CO, Dan Gehlsen of Denver CO, Laurie Gehlsen of Phoenix AZ, and Carol Brown of Castle Rock CO. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Bryan Dorr of Rifle CO, Patrick Duffy of Thornton CO, and Aric Dorr of Glenwood Springs CO and one great granddaughter, Jordan Dorr of Rifle CO. Other family members include Bob Dorr, Randy Brown, Jennie Dorr, Erin Dorr, and Cheryl and Tyler Eldridge.
