Miss Susan Schmitz Responds to
Deaths Call, Aged 82 Years
~
The funeral of Mrs. Susan Schmitz, whose death occurred on Saturday morning last, took place from the residence of her son, Mr. Schmitz, at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Rev. E. Jay Cook officiating. Mrs. Schmitz was born in Rhineland, Prussia, Germany, November 11, 1808, and came to this country with her husband and family in 1844. In 1848 her husband died in Chicago, since which time Mrs. Schmitz has made her home with her children, her eight remaining sons and daughters being Messrs. J. N. and J. H. Schmitz of this city, Mrs. Anna Mertes, of Winona, Minn., Mr. Henry Schmitz of Janesville, Wis., Peter J. Schmitz, of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. M. Curtis, of Nevada, Ia., Mrs. Mary Bond, of Iowa Falls, Ia., and Mrs. J. P. Schmitz of Winona, Minn. Besides her eight living children Mrs. Schmitz leaves thirty-two grandchildren, and eight grand-children.

Aside from a large number of immediate descendants who were present to pay their respects to an aged mother and friend, the services were attended by many who had come to know and love her whose remains were laid to rest in Springdale yesterday.

The immediate cause of the aged ladies death was from a severe attack of la grippe, with which she was attacked a year ago.
