Lawrence B. "Larry" Forari, Jr., 75, of Bettendorf and a 35-year veteran of the Bettendorf Police Department, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Child Abuse Council of the Quad-Cities.

Larry was born June 18, 1941 in Davenport, the son of Lawrence B. & Irma (Baumbach) Forari Sr. A graduate of Bettendorf High School, he served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. Larry served with the 504th Military Battalion of Ft. Lewis, Washington as a military policeman. He served in France, directing military conveys and had also participated in the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Following his discharge, he joined the Bettendorf Police Department in 1964 (Badge #4005) and retired in 1999, proudly serving the Bettendorf community for 35 years.

Larry was united in marriage to Shirley A. Sharp on January 31, 1969 in Bettendorf. Larry was also employed with Brinks Armored Transportation for 19 years.

A fan of NASCAR and the St. Louis Cardinals, Larry enjoyed fishing, camping and the devoted time spent with his family.

Those left to honor Larry's memory include his wife, Shirley; his daughters, Tamara Clark of Ft. Myers, Florida and Trudi (Roy) Steel of Bonita Beach, Florida; his sons, Jeff (Rhonda) Dittman of Holland, Michigan, Greg (Kathy) Forari of Camanche, Iowa and Brad (Angela) Forari of Walcott, Iowa; his grandchildren, Brittany (Steve) Swift, Adrienne Lenahan, Katie Lenahan and her fiancé, Shawn Devine, Joe (Kristin) Forari, McKayla Forari, Katarina Forari, Keaton Forari and Jeffrey Dittman; and his great-grandchildren, Molly, Joseph, LillyAnn, Skylar and Kaylee.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
