Frederick J. Ray, 96, of Clinton, passed away, November 9, 2016 at the Alverno.

Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the service time at the funeral home on Monday.

Frederick John Ray was born on March 9, 1920 in Clinton, the son of Maude Ferris Peck and Fred J. Ray. He was a 1938 graduate of Clinton High School and the University of Iowa in 1942. He attended Northwestern University evening school in Chicago under the GI Bill.

Fred was a World War II veteran who served from 1942-1945 in the United States Signal Corps and Army Air Forces including 21 months in Newfoundland with the 1001st Signal Service Company.

Fred was employed by the University of Illinois at the medical center, Navy Pier, Chicago Circle for 33 years in the capacity of internal auditor, payroll supervisor, and retirement counselor.

Fred was a life member of St. Johns’ (Christ) Episcopal Church and served as a vestry member. A longtime collector of United States, UN, and foreign stamps. He was the closest living relative of Dr. George K. Peck, the founder of Camanche, Iowa.

Fred was preceded in death by a brother: Philip Louis Ray (1943), mother Maude Ferris Peck Ray (1950), father Fred J. Ray (1960), and aunt Adah Way Peck Fluke and a cousin Dorothy June Fluke Tisher. Survivors include several cousins.

Memorials can be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
