James W. Bell, age 93 of South Bay, CA, formerly of Mitchellville, IA, passed away on November 14, 2016. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the service hour. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery. James was born on May 26, 1923 in Des Moines, IA the son of James Alexander and Grace (Clegg) Bell. James graduated from the University of Iowa and was a member of Delta Pi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonial after 31 years of active and reserve duty. James married Virginia (Carmody) in Los Angeles, CA. James was a member of three Masonic Lodges where he held various offices and was honored with The Hiram Award. He was employed in the air transportation field retiring from American Airlines in 1983. James is survived by a nephew Gordon (Alison) Bell of Waterloo, IA and a niece Kathy (AJ) Mohr of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, and his brother Richard T. Bell.
