3 March 1911 - The Lowden News

Residents of this vicinity were shocked to learn Sunday morning that Wm. Witte had died suddenly the evening before. He had been up town Saturday evening and had left for home seemingly in the best of spirits, about 10 o'clock, which was the last time he was seen alive.

His nephew John Witte was going home and found him lying near the home of Claude Dutton. He tried to arouse him, but failing, ran home and told his father, Fred Witte, who hurried to the side of his brother and had him carried to his home. The physician called, found that death was caused by heart failure.

Wm. Witte died at the age of 56 years, 8 mo. and 3 days, having been born in Indiana on June 22nd, 1854; he came with his parents to Wheatland, Iowa in 1855 and resided there since with the exception of the past 10 years when he staid most of the time in western Iowa. He was unmarried.

Deceased leaves to mourn his sudden death, three brothers and one sister, namely, Frank, Dick and Fred Witte and Mrs. Hargens of Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Tuesday the remains were laid to rest in the Germany cemetery northwest of town. -- Wheatland Gazette
