Lawrence "Larry" Patrick Grant, 47, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Funeral services will be take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Honoring his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. A visitation will occur from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, at Lemke Funeral Home - South Chapel. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Larry was born March 19, 1969, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Jean (Huber) Grant and Lawrence Grant. He attended Camanche High School for the majority of his schooling and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. Shortly after high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1987 to 1993. He was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Onboard the U.S.S. America, Larry served as an aircraft mechanic. He achieved several Naval accolades for his dedication to serving his country.
He was united in marriage to Jenny "Jen" Atwood on December 24, 2001, in Reno, Nevada.
After serving the past 16 years as an independent operator of his own semi, Larry decided to retire. Larry didn't stay retired long as he and his wife Jen, started "Bad Influence Barbecue and Grill", the big blue food truck serving the surrounding communities. He also owned the Kettle Corn business at the Lumber Kings baseball stadium.
Larry enjoyed numerous hobbies including: camping, fishing, photography, drag racing, and playing Texas Hold 'em. He was always the jokester, having a very sarcastic sense of humor. He loved to be the center of attention, making people laugh, and taking selfies of himself. Larry also documented his life with many tattoos covering his body. He had a love of all animals. Larry was known for his excellent barbequing/cooking skills. Since retiring from truck driving, Larry tried to spend quality time with his wife, Jen, and son, Ryan. They enjoyed running the food truck and kettle corn machine as a family at different events.
Larry is survived by his wife Jenny of Clinton, IA; one son - Ryan Grant at home; his mother - Jean Grant of Clinton, IA; one sister - Karla (Chuck) Grant McClure of Walford, IA; his mother in-law, Donna Shoup of Antioch, CA; with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, as well as his fur-babies - his dogs - Lilly and Bella.
Preceding Larry in death were his grandparents; Rita and Clarence Huber, "Babe" Grant, his father, Lawrence N. Grant, sister in-law, Judy L. Shoup, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Larry's kindness towards others in need continued after death as he requested to be an organ donor, giving life to numerous others, and his body was offered for research.
In lieu of flowers, any donations will be added to his son's college fund account.
