Mrs. Arlene E. Holst, 87, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday morning, October 8, 2016, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, Illinois.

Mrs. Holst, the former Arlene Edna Schnoor was born February 10, 1929, at rural Davenport to John and Edna (Brehmer) Schnoor. She attended rural schools and graduated from Davenport Central High School. Arlene married John "Jack" Holst on January 12, 1950, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport. The couple farmed at rural Welton for over 50 years where they raised their family. Arlene was a homemaker and later worked in the Deli at Barnes Foodland in DeWitt. In retirement, Arlene and Jack moved to DeWitt in 1992 where they were caretakers of the Clinton County Fairgrounds for 10 years. Her husband Jack preceded her in death October 22, 2012.

She was a longtime member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Welton, the Altar and Rosary Society, Welton Township Homemakers and was a past 4-H leader. Arlene was a great cook and could put a meal on the table for a big group in nothing flat. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Arlene loved playing all kinds of card games.

Surviving are children, DeAnn (David) King of Cedar Rapids, Dean (Lori) Holst, Donn (Nanette) Holst and David (Tina) Holst all of DeWitt, Tom (Kim Daminato) Holst of Valrico, Florida, and Michelle (John) Rausenberger of Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Annette Holst of DeWitt; 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred (Harry) VenHorst of Bettendorf and Dorothy (Bob) Schlapkohl of Stockton; a sister-in-law, Norma Schnoor of Corpus Christi, Texas; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis; a son, Dale; her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Ralph VenHorst and a brother, Robert Schnoor.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016, with a vigil service 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Thad King, Toby King, Jason Holst, Derrick Holst, Adam Holst, Kale Holst, Austin Holst, Zach Holst, Josh King, Nathan King, Nick King, Jim Rausenberger, Mike Rausenberger and Ryan Rausenberger.
