Wipke Catharina Wischmann was born in Grossenasper, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, August 24, 1840. At the age of sixteen years she came to America with her parents, settling at Wheatland. She was married in 1839 to John Wischmann and to that union eight sons and four daughters were born. Two sons and three daughters preceded her to the grave.

On Tuesday, May 1st, Mrs. Wischmann suffered a stroke of apoplexy and passed away the following day at 1:15 p.m. at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 8 days.

She leaves to mourn her death six sons, Henry, Herman, Gustave, Arthur, George and Alfred; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Doermann; five brothers and three sisters; twelve grandchildren. One granddaughter, Miss Martha Drost, was reared to womanhood by her grandmother, she having taken her at the time of the death of her daughter, leaving this girl at that time only one week old. All of her children were able to attend her funeral which was held Sunday forenoon at 11 o'clock at the house, followed by services in the Evangelical church rooms. Rev. J. Reichardt officiating. Interment was made in the Low German cemetery near Wheatland.

Those who acted as pall bearers were Chris Muesing, Fred Richmann, Dick Schepers, Henry Brendes, C. L. McClellan and Fred Dircks.
