4 September 1908 - The Lowden News

From Wednesday's Wheatland Gazette.

The death of Christian Puetsch last Friday marked the passing of another Wheatland pioneer. He suffered a paralytic stroke about two years ago, and since that time has been confined to his bed, resigned to the thought that death was his only relief. Wednesday morning he had a second stroke and never rallied afterward. His children were at his bedside when the end came.

Christian Puetsch was born Aug. 30th, 1829, at Buch, Prussia. He came to this country in June, 1855, and on Aug. 20th, 1858, he was married to Wilhelmina Endorf of Toronto, the ceremony being performed by the late Jesse Stine. They were blessed with twelve children, six boys and six girls. Two boys are now dead; the rest of the children have always remained near the home and parents, and now with their mother and also nine grandchildren of the deceased survive to mourn his demise.

August 20th was the fiftieth anniversary of their wedded life, and had he lived until Sunday he would have been 79 years old. All his life he had been a faithful, hardworking man, with nothing but the thought of making proper provisions for the welfare of his family. He was an earnest supporter of the German Reformed church, and brought his family up in the same faith. When he became too old for the heavy duties of the farm he retired, and has lived in town here for the past ten years.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Link at the residence Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, followed by longer services at the German Reformed church. Many old friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the High German cemetery.
