George W. Andresen, 88, of Camanche, passed away, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus – Davenport, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Clinton. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery – Camanche. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory.

George William Andresen was born on February 1, 1928 in Maquoketa, Iowa, as George William Hurlburt to William and Ruth (Everett) Hurlburt. His father died in 1937 and George and his sisters were placed in foster homes. In 1942 George was adopted by Herbert and Algona Andresen. He graduated from Delmar High School in 1945. On April 17, 1949 he married Caroline Jahn in Charlotte, Iowa.

George farmed until 1963, then operated George’s Standard Service in Camanche. He served on the Camanche Fire Department for 13 years and was a police officer from 1968-1978. He then worked as a mechanic for Foley Construction retiring in 1990. He also worked part time as a guard at International Paper and Ralston Purina.

George is survived by his wife: Caroline of Camanche; four sons: Lon Andresen of Camanche, Loren (Peggy) Andresen of Camanche, Dean Andresen of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Dwight (Cheryl) Andresen of Mountain Home, Idaho; a daughter-in-law: Gina Andresen of Clinton; 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Betty (Russell) Paulsen of Maquoketa and Dawn Synder of Skokie, Illinois; and one brother Sylvan (Brenda) Andresen of Clinton.
George was preceded in death by both sets of parents, his son: Lyle in 2012, two brothers, and two sisters.
