Harry G. Dawson, 93 of Clinton passed away, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center – Clinton.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.

Harry Grant Dawson was born in Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital on June 20, 1922, the son of Clifford Grant and Bernice (Judd) Dawson in Clinton, Iowa.

Harry attended schools in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1940. In 1941 he joined the Army Air Corp as a photographer. Harry was stationed in San Diego, California. While Harry was in the Army he received degrees in Chemistry and Technical Writing, which is the field in which he made his living. He married Mildred Sander on December 31, 1942, at the home of a judge in San Diego while the judge was hosting a New Year’s Eve Party. Harry’s tour in the military was up just before the end of the war.

Harry, Mildred and Douglas moved back to Clinton, Iowa, where their parents were still living. Following their return to Clinton, Harry worked at and retired from Clinton Corn Processing Company as a Technical Writer and Chemist in the laboratory.

After retiring, Harry spent his time with the loves of his life- Indian motor cycles and antique cars. Harry and Mildred went on many antique car club trips and Harry would always go on his annual motor cycle trips. During one trip the cycle club drove around Times Square in New York City. He enjoyed yearly hunting trips in northern Wisconsin. Starting with his father then adding Doug and Brent later, he hadn’t missed a year in 70 years.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Mildred Sander Dawson, his four children: Douglas (Tiffany) Dawson of Midland, Michigan, Vicki (Vince) Klyn of Pella, Iowa, Pam (Rick) Smith of Clinton, and Brent (Laura) Dawson of Aurora, Illinois; five grandchildren: Amy, Brad, Bailey, Nathan and Nicole; four great grand-children: Carson, Parker, Sydney and Harper . He also leaves behind a sister-in-law Charlene Dawson of Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Howard “Moby” Dawson.
