Isabelle Shearon, 88, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on Saturday, April 2, 2016, surrounded by family in her final days and through her passing. A Funeral Mass will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A gathering of family and friends will take place in the church foyer prior to Funeral Mass from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Isabelle, known by beloved friends and family as Izzy, was born March 24, 1928 in Keithsburg, Illinois, the daughter of Freeman and Julia (Gayler) Robbins. She was a graduate of Keithsburg High School in 1946 where she was a cheerleader and involved in DAR. Isabelle was united in marriage to Sherman Shearon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton, Iowa on April 30, 1949.
Izzy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church prior to the merging into Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Parish. When she first moved to Clinton, Izzy worked at Curtis Company. When some of her children were old enough to help at home, she worked at Nielsen's Clearing House. She was a resistance welder for Collis, Inc. retiring after nearly 20 years of service. Following her retirement from Collis, Izzy continued her friendships with her fellow retirees, meeting each month to catch up and socialize.
As busy as she was, she loved traveling with her sister, and over the years, visited all 48 contiguous states on those driving excursions. Izzy enjoyed embroidery and loved playing cards and board games. She was hard to beat at Scrabble. With all of that, her main priority in life was taking care of her family. A quiet, steady, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was very active in her youngsters' social activities. She served her large family tirelessly, cheerfully; always there and available to help maneuver through life's challenges good and bad.
Isabelle is survived by nine children; Cheryl, Julie, Vera, Mary, Jim, Cecelia, Teresa, Peter and Dennis; thirty grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Ortrey, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Isabelle in death were her parents, her husband Sherman, two brothers and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Alverno in Isabelle's name, 849 13th Ave. North Clinton, Iowa 52732
