Mr. Vernon W. Schwarz, 89, of DeWitt died early Friday morning, April 15, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.

Vernon Wayne Schwarz was born October 22, 1926, in Scott County to William and Edna (Olson) Schwarz. He married Vivian Matzen July 17, 1953, in Davenport. Vernon served in the United States Army during the Korean Era as a tank instructor from 1952-1954. He was a farmer his whole life, enjoying card playing and going to auctions.

Surviving are children, Larry of DeWitt, Lynn Schwarz of Maquoketa; Lori Elsner of Charlotte; Polly (Michael) Chase of Clinton, Gwyn (Gary) Stoll of Newhall, Jill (Rene) Ruiz of San Antonio, Texas, and Peggy (Frank) Hodge of Geneseo, Illinois; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, LaVerne and Dale (Judy); a sister, Darlene (Ken) Litterer; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Vernon in death were his wife on December 11, 1989; a son-law, Daryl Elsner; his parents, a brother, Don and a sister, Joyce.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20th. A memorial gathering will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21st at Grace Camp, DeWitt. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.
