David E. Clizbe, 93, of Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City, Iowa.
Visitation will be Monday, March 21, 2016 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. A graveside service will be Monday at 1:00pm at Oakland Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen, Keith and Scott Clizbe, Jim Patti, Eric Patti, Scott Harrison, and Mike Dietrick. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Bob Boegel.
David Ellis Clizbe was born on November 24, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Ray and Elsie (Poppe) Clizbe. He was a 1940 graduate of Clinton High School. He later served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 as an officer Lt. JG aboard the USS Wichita. After being discharged from the Navy, he graduated from Iowa State University in 1947.
David married Caroline Rich on June 6, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa; they had five children: Stephen, Debra, Nancy, Keith, and Scott. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the river with his family and friends. He liked the outdoors and natural surroundings; he especially enjoyed hunting duck and geese. He was a member of the Clinton Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends, and was a member of it’s 29 Club.
David worked for DuPont as a senior technical advisor & market development engineer both in Clinton and Wilmington, Delaware where he raised his family before returning to Clinton after 33 years of service.
David is survived by his wife: Caroline of Clinton; his children: Stephen (Mireya) Clizbe of Cobb, California, Debra (Mike Dietrick) Delaney of Clermont, Florida, Nancy (James) Patti of Clinton, Iowa, Keith (Barbara) Clizbe of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and Scott Clizbe of Davenport, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister: Jeanne.
