7 May 1915 The Lowden News

Our community was saddened on Wednesday when the news was spread over our town that Jerome Goodall had passed away at ten o'clock that morning.

Jerome Joseph Goodall was born June 17th, 1900, and died April 28th, 1915, at the age of 14 years, 10 months and eleven days. Death was caused by pericarditis following an attack of tonsillitis, contracted while attending St. Ambrose college at Davenport.

The funeral was held at the St. James church Friday morning. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. M McNamara of Toronto, Rev. Mineardt of St. Ambrose college and Rev. J. Regan of Oxford Jct., after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery.

James graduated from the Toronto school in 1913 and was pursuing the course of studies at St. Ambrose college at Davenport until three months ago, when he was forced to give up his work on account of illness.

The deceased was the youngest of the family and is survived by the mother, five brothers and six sisters: Sister Mary Ansalma of Chicago, Ill., S. Laughlin of Texas, Doctor Goodall and Mrs. Reed of DeWitt, Frank, John, Ida, Frances, June, Anna and James of Toronto. The pall bearers were his five brothers and brother-in-law, Mr. Reed.

Jerome was idolized by the family and his sunny disposition won him many friends among his associates. Many in the large audience were visibly effected, giving evidence that Jerome was loved greatly by his young friends and schoolmates, and all who had known him.

Relatives from a distance were Dr. Burke and family of DeWitt, Mr. and Mrs. A. Goodall and Mrs. Carly of Tama, Mrs. Burke of Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Dolan and two sons of Charlotte, Mrs. John Goodall and son of Petersville, Mr. and Mrs. J. McGarry of DeWitt, Mrs. Ryan of Davenport, H. Conwell of Lyons and Willie Goodall and Ervin Couglin of St. Ambrose college, and many friends from Davenport, DeWitt, Clinton, Grand Mound and Petersville.

The family has the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends in their sad bereavement.
