Leon L. O’Connors, 91, of Camanche, passed away, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Prairie Hills – Clinton.

Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Camanche VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Kooi, Mike Kooi, Dick Kooi, Frank Wiebers, Ronnie Wiebers, and Jim Wiebers. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.

Leon Leo O’Connors was born on September 28, 1924 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Albert and Dorothy (Galusha) O’Connors. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a carpenter mate 2-C. He married Evelyn Jane Wiebers on July 31, 1945 at the First Baptist Church – Camanche, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last summer.

Leon worked at Allied Steel for 31 years and was a co-owner of the O’Connors Grocery Store in Camanche. He was a life member of the Camanche VFW, enjoyed fishing on the Wapsi River with brother-in-law Bob Hart, hunting, bowling, collecting coins and roller-skating.

Leon is survived by his wife; Evelyn; one daughter: Marsha Laurion of Clinton; three grandchildren: Melissa Goulden of DeWitt, Iowa, Christa Swanson of New York, Levi (Jessica) Laurion of Clinton; five great-grandchildren: Connor, Logan, and Gage Prucnal, and Braxton and Lily Laurion; and one great-great granddaughter: Jordyn Prucnal. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson: Jackson Rhys Laurion, one sister: Francis McCray, and two brother-in-laws: Richard Wiebers and Bob Hart.

Memorials can be made to the Jackson Rhys Laurion Memorial Fund with the Mercy Health Care Foundation.
