Daniel Dean Behr, 68, of Grand Mound, died early Sunday evening, February 14, 2016, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

He was born January 23, 1948, in Clinton, to William John and Marilyn “Babe” Mae (Rogis) Behr. Dan was a 1966 graduate of Central Community Schools, DeWitt and attended Clinton Community College. On August 31, 1968, Dan was united in marriage to Cindy Lee Chaon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The couple resided in Grand Mound most of their married life. Following college, Dan worked at Clinton Corn Processing as a Lab Technician. He began his career in the insurance industry in the mid 70’s working first as an Insurance Auditor for Schneider and Associates of Davenport. Dan was employed by Iowa Mutual Insurance Company of DeWitt where he was an Insurance Auditor, Branch Manager of the Omaha Office and Vice President of Commercial Lines. For the past 13 years, he was an Auditor for Insurance Audit Services, Inc., Davenport. Dan served as Mayor for the City of Grand Mound for 27 years, retiring January 1, 2016.

Dan was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, where he served on various boards. He also was a volunteer fireman on the Grand Mound Fire Department for over 20 years. Dan was active in the Grand Mound Ball Club, Community Club and coached Little League for several years. He was a charter member of the Grand Mound Jaycees, served as a city council member and was active for many years with the Grand Mound Fireworks Display. Dan was an avid golfer and longtime member of Wapsi Oaks Country Club, Calamus, where he spent Wednesday afternoons golfing with his friends. As a loving father, Dan enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his son.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 47 years, Cindy; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Stephanie Behr of Naperville, Illinois; his mother, Babe Behr of Camanche; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Leon Doescher of Camanche and Nancy and Rich Smith of Elvira; a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Molly and Vince Sheridan of DeWitt and Ron Chaon of Sorrento, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dan in death were his father, William and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Frances Chaon.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 19th. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound with the Rev. Steven Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
