Mr. Harlan D. Daniels, 81, of DeWitt formerly of Miles, died early Monday morning, February 22, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Harlan Dale Daniels was born October 11, 1934, in Green Island to Howard and Pearl (Baker) Daniels. He attended Green Island Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Miles High School and served in the National Guard for six years. On April 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joann Muhl at the United Methodist Church in Miles. The couple resided in Miles where they raised their family. Early in his life, Harlan worked on the Milwaukee Road Railroad and later at Clinton Engine. In 1961, he graduated from Davenport Barber College and worked as a barber for 53 years in Miles. Harlan was also employed by the City of Miles for 29 years.

He enjoyed being active in the community and was a member of the Bellevue Masonic Lodge #51, a volunteer fireman in Miles for many years and later served as district secretary. Harlan was a dedicated member of the Sabula Izaac Walton League. He was president of the Big Bend Little League and coached Majors for over 25 years. Harlan was an avid fisherman, hunter, sports fan, and card player. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s music, dance and sporting events.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joann; children, Keith (Fanny) Daniels of Woodbury, Minnesota, Curtis (Sandy) Daniels of DeWitt, Nancy (John) Showalter of Woodbury, Bruce (Lynn) Daniels of Shoreview, Minnesota, and Terry (Deb) Daniels of DeWitt; grandchildren, Brian (Tanya) Daniels, Scott (fiancée, Kirsten) Daniels, Alex Daniels, Lucas Daniels, Michael Showalter, Angie (fiancé, Wes) Daniels, Matt Daniels and Devin Daniels; great-grandchildren, Keira Jane Daniels and Lincoln Harlan Daniels; a sister, Rita Powers of Clinton; brothers, Darrell of Clinton, Lary and Stan (Judi) of Bellevue; special nieces, nephews, cousins, customers and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Nancy Lou, and a brother, Wayne.

The family will receive family and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24th. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016, in the funeral home. Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Miles Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian, Scott, Matt, Devin, Alex, Lucas, Wes and Michael.

Memorials are suggested to Camp Courageous or University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
