Mary Ann Shepard, 79, of Clinton passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 at her home – Clinton.

A memorial service will be privately held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. Her urn will be buried in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com.

Mary Ann Lorenzen was born July 19, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ida (Christiansen) Lorenzen. She was a 1954 graduate of Clinton High School.

She married Allan Gronwaldt at Zion Lutheran Church in 1958; he passed away in 2000. From this union Mary was blessed with three children. She is survived by her children: Kenneth (Barb Lueders) Gronwaldt of Clinton; Jeffrey (Brenda) Gronwaldt of Clinton and Diane Lynn Corey of Clinton; five grandchildren: Allan Gronwaldt, Dustin Dau, Darren Dau, David Dau, and Benjamin Cady; and 7 great grandchildren.

Mary later married Donald Ray Shepard and is survived by step son David (Connie) Shepard, step daughter Laurie Friberg, and step grandson Scott Shepard. Don passed away in 2011.

Mary is also survived by her sister (Kay (James) Frahm of Clinton; brother Chris (Sharon) Lorenzen of Davenport, sister in law Kathy Lorenzen and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her two husbands, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Mary worked at various places during her life time such as Jane Lamb Hospital’s kitchen while going to high school, Excelsior Laundry and Cleaners, Clinton Corn Processing, and home typist for Nielsens’ Clearing House. She worked as a key punch operator for Nabisco. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, drawing, making cards on the computer, refinishing woodwork, and bowling when younger. She enjoyed the church choir in her youth and dancing.

Her greatest blessing was her faith in God and the answer to her prayers was that she knew what it was to be a mother before she passed from this world. She felt so blessed to have a wonderful family, friends, care-givers, and neighbors.
