Eugene C. "Gene" Johnson, 93, passed away on Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 at home in Henderson, Nevada.
Gene Johnson was born on September 18th, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa to Emil and Violet (Pullen) Johnson. He was a graduate of Lyons High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp on April 15th, 1944 and was honorably discharged on September 16th, 1945.
After serving in Europe, he was an active member of the Air Force reserves until 1971 and attained the rank of major.
Gene married Lois Marie Edwards of Clinton, Iowa on January 27th, 1945 in Casper, Wyoming. Gene and Lois were the parents of one son. Gene was employed by Allied Steel for many years as a supervisor. He also served as treasurer for the Allied Credit Union. After retirement from Allied, he became co-owner of M & W Schwinn where he sold and repaired bicycles.
Gene was a life long member of Lyons Methodist Church where he served as treasurer.
He loved to take his family on car trips throughout the United States and Canada. He recently completed a trip with his friend Bonnie Pape visiting friends and family in Colorado and Iowa. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Gene also enjoyed photography, painting, bowling and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother Irving and his loving wife of sixty years, Lois. Gene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and LuAnn Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota; granddaughter Karissa Johnson and her husband Joshua Wostrel of Littleton, Colorado; granddaughter Stephanie Johnson of Denver, Colorado; and his brother and sister-in-law, Arnold "Arnie" and Betty Johnson of Pahrump, Nevada.
A memorial service will be held at Lyons Methodist Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 17th with Pastor Christine Minor-Heilig officiating. Visitation will be from10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements
