Many were shocked and surprised Saturday afternoon when the report gained currency that Bert Lamb was dead. It seemed hardly possible that he had been cut off in the prime of young manhood, just when the future held out alluring prospects and promieses of a useful and honorable career. But the report proved true. Bert Lamb is dead. He passed quietly away at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Artemus Lamb, about 3 p.m. His last illness was not a long one, He had been confined to the house but about a month, yet had failed rapidly and for some days his recovery had been dispaired of. Bert L. Lamb would have been 23 years of age his next birthday. He was born in Clinton and educated in the public schools, afterward taking a position in the office of C. Lamb & Sons, where he proved himself capable and trustworthy. His genial dispositiono made him a general favorite, not only with his co-laborers in the office, but with the public in general- and he was known and admired by every one. On December 16 last he was married to Miss Grace Olds and almost immediately after his return was taken seriously ill. His health had never been robust and he failed to rally, slowly but surely growing weaker until the final dissolution. His death brings sorrow to many hearts. Great sympathy goes out to the wife that survives him after but a month of wedded life and to his grief-stricken parents, brothers and sisters. The funeral arrangements have not been made yet.

The Clinton Daily Herald Vol. 21 No. 120 Tuesday February 1, 1898 p. 8 The funeral of the late Bert L. Lamb took place this afternoon from the family home on Fifth avenue. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Fowler of the Presbyterian church. A large number of the friends of the deceased were present.

The Clinton Mirror Vol. 40 No. 41 Whole No. 2263 Saturday February 5, 1898 p. 4 This year death has been busy in his work of desolation. Three times he visited the Lamb family, and each time has he taken a dear one. Saturday of last week, Jan. 29th, Bert L., youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Artemus Lamb, bade adieu to earth, leaving a young wife and a happy future, and accompanied the grim messenger to the ever green shore. The family in their sorrow have the sympathy of all, and Bert will be long remembered, as he was born in Clinton, every one knew him, and in his short life he had made countless friends and no enemies.
