THOMAS CLEMENT OF DEWITT DIES

DeWitt - Thomas Clement, 78, died at 4:30 a.m. today at his home here. (February 8, 1941)

The body reposes in the McGinnis Funeral home where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. C. W. Hansom will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery.

Mr. Clement was born Oct. 31, 1862 in Eden township and was married to Nettie Gibson Feb. 15, 1888 near Malone. During the next four years they lived on a farm near Holstein and later moved to a farm near DeWitt. They moved to DeWitt in 1912.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Hans Prehn of DeWitt, four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Butcher of Ida Grove, Mrs. Ida Porter, Mrs. Carrie Cousins and Mrs. Flora Cousins of DeWitt; two brother, William E. and Charles E. of DeWitt and five grandchildren.

One daughter, Mrs. Florence Christiansen, two sisters, and one brother preceded him in death.

A follow-up story on Tuesday, February 11, 1941:

Pall bearers included six nephews, John Porter, Robert Cousins, Thomas Cousins, Earl Cousins, Lewis Clement, DeWitt and William R. Blake, Clinton.

Among relative and friends here from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Will H. Dann, Camanche, Mr. and Mrs. George Cousins, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Blake and two daughters of Clinton, Mrs. Hattie Barker, Miss Mae Barker, Mrs. Carrie Howson, Low Moor, and well as others from various towns in this vicinity.
