Elaine C. “Lainey” “MeeMee” Laird, age 76 of Clinton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Palative Care at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 25th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, November 24th at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandsons; Rob, Shawn, Chad, Jeff and Jason Nobel and friend Scott Salser. Honorary casket bearers will be Stan Brickson, Billy Fugate and Doug Murphy.
Lainey was born in Clinton on February 24, 1938, the daughter of Charles and Bernice (Dague) Fugate. She attended Clinton schools and received her GED in 1989. Lainey married Don Primes in Clinton. He preceded her in death. She married Lawrence “Larry” Laird on April 23, 1977 at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton. She owned Lainey’s Plaster Gallery and Cherished Moments Photography. She had previously been employed with the Clinton Job Corp, Department of Social Services and Swiss Colony. Lainey was a very active member of the First Baptist Church. She belonged to the Clinton Police Academy Alumni. Lainey was devoted to her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed helping others, singing, collecting Betty Boop and monkey’s and had enjoyed riding her hot pink three wheeled motorcycle.
Lainey is survived by her husband, Larry; her daughter, Connie (Bob) Brashaw of Clinton; two step-daughters, Betty and Linda; a step-son, Larry Laird; grandchildren, Stephanie Stansbarger (Danny Hantelman), Donna Bengtson (Scott), Amanda Laird (Tyler Olson), Rob, Chad (Christinia), Shawn, Jeff (Leslie) Brashaw, Jason Nobel, Alexis Laird and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and her companion, Sugar. She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-daughter, Debbie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
