Heinz A. Foit, 87, of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Eldridge, Iowa, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, early Friday morning, December 26, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt Campus.

Heinz Alois Foit was born April 9, 1927, to Leo and Hildegard (Kurtze) Foit, in Oelnitz, Germany. He was united in marriage to Traude “Trudy” Gutseel on May 7, 1949, in Limbach, Germany. The couple moved to the United States in 1964, where Heinz became plant manager at Siefert Clothing in Rock Island, Illinois. He later was vice president of Ladin Industries in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1985 the couple returned to Germany where Heinz owned and operated TEBA-Heinz Foit Textiles. After retirement in 1993 the couple returned to their family in the States.

Heinz enjoyed gardening, traveling, and time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Trudy, he is survived by his children, Dieter (Sally) Foit of Omaha, Nebraska, Lothar (Lori) Foit of DeWitt; grandchildren, Robert (Karla) Foit, Jason (Melanie) Foit, and Jonathan Foit, Amanda Foit, Bryan (Tara) Foit, and Jennifer Foit; great-grandchildren, Bridgette, Rachael, Torrance, Annika, and Aidan; siblings Erika (Henry) Nitschke, and Helmut (Marlies) Foit both of Germany; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Annelise.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa. A Service of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, the Rev. Steven Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa.
