L. Jane (Swamberger) Wilkinson, 86, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). Following the Funeral Mass, cremation rites will be accorded with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jane was born January 17, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Edmund and Marion (Yuppie) Swamberger. She graduated from Saint Patrick's grade school in 1942 and Mount Saint Clare Academy in 1946. Jane was united in marriage to Harold Wilkinson on October 3, 1951 at Saint Patrick's Church in Clinton.
Jane was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church parish and then Prince of Peace Parish. She was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone as an operator, instructor, and supervisor. She retired to raise four children and returned in 1968 until the office closed in 1976. She worked a total of 18 years for "Ma Bell".
Jane helped with numerous organizations including being a past president of St. Patrick's Home and School Association, St. Patrick's Alter and Rosary, and Mount Saint Clare Alumni. She was also a previous member of the Board of Directors for Mobile Meals, Chairperson of the Information Desk at Mercy Medical Center and the Thrift Shop.
Jane loved reading, making beautiful quilts, crocheting and knitting, and visiting friends. There are not many family members that did not have a pair of slippers that "Aunt Jane" made. She and Harold also had the pleasure of traveling after they both retired and enjoyed visiting the family as often as they could.
Jane is survived by her husband Harold of 63 years; Christine (Brad) Wilkins of Frutia, CO.; Roger (Laurel) Wilkinson of Avon, CO; Jon (Sherri) Wilkinson of Clinton, IA. and Laura (Jeff) Ernst of Clinton, IA. Jane also had four grandchildren - Chad, Zach, Lance and Luke.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
