The Clinton Herald; August 21, 1896 Mr. Andrew Tumpane, Sr., died at his residence in DeWitt on Wednesday afternoon, aged 77 years, 7 months and 13 days, from general debility, the result of old age. Mr. Tumnpane was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, and was married there to Margaret Renihan. He came with his family to the United States in 1851, and first settled in Washington county, N.Y. He came west in 1862, and settled in Scott county on a farm, which he sold, came to Clinton county and bought the Ames farm southeast of town, which he sold to his son William. He then removed to DeWitt and settled in the east part of town. He leaves besides many friends and acquaintances two sons, William, of DeWitt, and Andrew J., at Alvord, Iowa, two daughters, Mrs.Michael Kreagher, who resides south of town and Miss Bridget at home. His wife died some years ago, since which time his household affairs have been cared for by his daughter, Bridget and grand-daughter Theresa. All who knew him speak in the highest terms of his uprightness of character. Funeral will occur at St. Joseph's church tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, with interment at Catholic cemetery.
