Thomas “Tom” Robert Scherer Sr., 63, of Clinton, Iowa peacefully passed away on Friday, August 15th, 2014 at his home surrounded by family.

Tom was born on October 29th, 1950 in Clinton, Iowa to Harry and Jane (Baker) Scherer. He was a 1969 graduate of Clinton High School. He was a trackman at CHS where one of his relay records still stands. His best friend of 55 years, Bill Hansen was a member of that famous sunglass relay.

He then attended the University of Iowa where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. Soon after his college graduation in 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Bobbi Boegel on August 16th, 1975. In 1982, they welcomed their son, Thomas Jr. (TJ) into their family.
Tom’s career included the finance department at McEleney Motors and retiring from ADP in the product integration department.

Tom was a man of many interests. He enjoyed traveling, finding tasty “dives”, golfing at the Fulton Country Club, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also a dedicated Mouseketeer, spending many memory-filled, Scherer happiness, family vacations at Disney World. He enjoyed helping his son and his wife remodel their house, and discovering new gourmet recipes. His adventures were cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2012.

Tom was the ultimate at witty quips, plays on words, and saucy punchlines. He was selfless, caring, determined, and he will be missed terribly by all those who knew him. Special thanks to all the family and friends who have provided support with car rides, visits, and phone calls.

A Memorial Visitation will be Friday, August 22nd, 2014 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Please wear your finest black and gold attire. Tom is survived by: his wife, Bobbi (Boegel) Scherer of Clinton; his son, TJ (Julie) Scherer, of Roselle, Illinois; his sister, Mary (Don) Reichwein, of Tallahassee, Florida; his father-in-law: Karl Boegel of Clinton; his sister-in-law, Karlen “Boo” Mueller of Clinton; nephews, Kenneth and Michael Mueller, his uncle and aunt Ralph and Peg Baker and cousins Lynn, Lisa and Nancy and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Jane Scherer; and his brother, Richard Scherer.
